Surprise proposal on top of Snowdon - Babs Boardwell Photography

For this super romantic surprise proposal on top of Snowdon we started the day quite early and walked up the UKs busiest mountain on one of the main paths. I’d asked my mate Mandy if she fancied coming along to keep me company and used Ajay & Caizers (my cheeky twins) as our *secret sign* for recognising Lucia who had planned the whole thing. Had I known it was going to be one of the busiest Mondays in September in the history of walking up Snowdon I probably would have chosen a different key phrase. Let’s just say I won’t ever again guarantee that there’ll only be two females up there with 2 border collies in tow holding a camera….

Lucia had been in touch a few weeks before the surprise proposal and I remember I had doubts that she would be able to pull it off on top of Snowdon. I think I actually advised her against it fearing it would be busy up Snowdon. I’m so glad she didn’t listen! So when she gave the green light the night before the proposal it’s fair to say things got more than just a tad exciting.

Secret Proposal Photography in Snowdonia

We’d arranged to meet *somewhere on the top* around midday on a Monday (7 years to the day they’d first met) and we’d even agreed it’d be *somewhere off to the side* if there were a few too many people around. Little did we know that once on top we actually found people were QUEUING to reach the summit and I was beginning to feel a little nervous – how on earth was I going to find them!? Mandy and I walked past the top and luckily managed to bag ourselves a picture-perfect spot looking down towards the Rhyd Ddu path. I swear this surprise proposal on top of Snowdon was totally meant to be as I figured it was only because Caizers got a bit noisy (if you follow my stories on Instagram you’ll be aware that he loves a loud bark…) that nobody chose the beautiful spot right in front of us to enjoy their sandwiches. I tried to use WhatsApp to give her the heads up as to our actual location but of course with no signal – no chance! We nervously waited for almost half an hour and just as I was beginning to think *at least we had a fab day out on the hills* I finally saw a girl fitting Lucia’s description walking towards us making eye contact, game on!

How to plan a proposal on Snowdon

She managed to sit a very oblivious Anna down and shared some sandwiches & cake with her. I wondered how she was going to get from sandwiches to romance but she very cleverly packed everything away then took her bag and somehow managed to get the ring box out and return to a still very oblivious Anna who was then asked to *stand over there* for a pic. As if by magic we heard some music and I don’t know if Anna thought this was just plain weird or taking way too long but she turned around and the look on her face was just priceless!!! It also took her a good 10 minutes to realise I was actually not just randomly photographing my dogs and the breathtaking scenery but was there especially to capture their once in a lifetime moment – result!
