My favourite wedding venues in North Wales
Being a wedding photographer in North Wales is awesome; we are spoilt for choice when it comes to beauty spots and North Wales is fast becoming a well-known hotspot for thrill seekers (Zip World, anyone?). And so it comes as no surprise at all that North Wales features some of the most beautiful wedding venues in the country. Here are some of my favourite wedding venues in North Wales.
The Llyn Gwynant Barns lie in the most beautiful valley in Wales!!! These fine stone buildings, Grade 2 listed, are surrounded by private fields overlooking the lake and the Big Barn is licensed for weddings. You can bring your entire wedding squad to camp out in tents or vans in the private fields for an absolutely unforgettable adventure wedding. I know I would! Head on over to Max & Sam’s Anglo-American Llyn Gwynant Wedding or Steve & Claire’s beautiful Llyn Gwynant wedding day to see the grounds in all their glory.
I’ve just shot Geraint & Rebecca’s beautiful wedding at the stunning Gwenfrewi Project and I absolutely loved it! It’s simply THE most beautiful historic venue in stunning scenery with ancient yew trees. The former church holds civil ceremonies and is also dog-friendly, happy days! Rebecca & Geraint shared homemade cakes and champagne with their friends and family after the ceremony and it was just beautiful. Unfortunately, Storm Hannah was causing havoc so we weren’t able to grab any shots outside. BUT – the church is so stunning it almost didn’t matter. To see Geraint & Becci’s beautiful wedding day in full head on over to A beautiful wedding at The Gwenfrewi Project. You’re welcome.
An ancient Welsh house situated in the foothills of beautiful Snowdonia. It is probably one of the finest Tudor houses in Wales and was formerly the ancestral home of the powerful Wynn family. By 1994, the house and garden had fallen into dereliction. Its restoration has taken over twenty years to complete and is still very much a work-in-progress by its current owners. Deeply evocative and atmospheric, the castle is an approved premise for Civil Marriages. The early Tudor ground-floor hall is available for a ceremony and champagne reception.
It’s absolutely stunning with open log fires and candles which make it very romantic and atmospheric. There are also beautiful pheasants roaming around in ten acres of breathtakingly stunning gardens – perfect for those all important photo opportunities.
This is a ceremony venue only and so you would need to choose another venue to head to after your ceremony but with views like these and such a romantic feel to it, it’s definitely worth doing! The Quay Hotel is not far (neither is Caernarfon Castle if you fancied a super romantic picture stop off) and is another stunning wedding venue in North Wales.
The stunning Pentre Mawr Country House in the Clwydian range in Denbigh sits in over 200 acres of parkland, woods, and meadows. There’s certainly something very special about this magical place and I’m not just talking about those African safari lodges with private hot tub! The little cottage leading into the secret garden is perfect for bridal prep while your guests mingle by the main house. The walled garden is beautiful and absolutely perfect for post-ceremony drinks in the glorious North Wales sunshine. And if it’s wet – there’s a marquee at the back of the house. Turn celebrations into a wonderful weekend full of fun with your besties! Unfortunately, children under the age of 12 are not allowed. But dogs are and the grounds are just absolutely perfect for all those cute wedding dogs.
It’s not a wedding venue as in such but I got lucky last year when Laura contacted me to be the wedding photographer for their North Wales family wedding there. The views from this elegant Victorian house across the Mawddach Estuary and Barmouth Bay are spectacular! It’s fair to say I fell a little bit in love with this friendly venue and think it is absolutely perfect for laid back couples having a small & relaxed family-oriented wedding in North Wales. Barmouth is on the edge of Snowdonia and perfect for adventurous lovers of all things outdoors.
Vale Country Club
The Vale Country Club is a beautiful little venue situated in a very picturesque spot right in the heart of the Vale of Clwyd, overlooking an area of outstanding natural beauty. It’s a very friendly and family run business with endless photo opportunities. Rustic exposed oak beams, a large inglenook, and traditional slate flooring give this stunner of a venue its character and charm. If outstanding views and friendly service are on top of your must-have list – this is the venue for you!
Tyn Dwr Hall
Tucked away in the stunning Welsh countryside you’ll find the stunning Tyn Dwr Hall. It’s near to the historic town of Llangollen. And only 20 minutes from Wrexham and 45 minutes from Chester. It’s also just a 10-minute drive from my house! I always love photographing weddings here; the hall was sympathetically restored by its current owners and offers plenty of spots for gorgeous wedding portraits, both inside and out. If you want to combine rustic country charm with elegance and an air of grandeur this is the place for you.
A truly romantic venue! This family-run wedding venue is basically a converted 250-year-old cattle barn. It has a stunning oak framed dining hall. And comes complete with a magnificent sandstone Railway Bridge! Their highly experienced and professional team is always on hand to offer a warm and friendly welcome. And their attention to detail is second to none! The venue was fully renovated in 2015 and has been designed from the outset specifically to host weddings & events.
This really helps to create an easy, stress-free atmosphere for your celebrations. The Old Barn is now fully refurbished and really creates the most wonderfully cosy and romantic atmosphere. Built around the late 1700s its original use was to store cattle. The main entertaining areas are situated close to each other. That really adds to the occasion and helps to create that all-important party vibe! They have a passionate and highly experienced in-house catering team on hand to help create the perfect wedding food. And they also have 2 in-house, fully qualified mixologists who are happy to create your own personalised cocktail menu for the day!
I have not worked at the following venues yet but I’d definitely love to! Feel free to give me a shout for a customised quote if you choose one of the following venues.
This farm is perfect for a country wedding! It sits right in the heart of the Conwy Valley in the Snowdonia National Park. Surrounded by stunning scenery, the set up is perfect for a whole weekend of all things weddings. I am definitely looking forward to my first wedding here this June.
Absolutely stunning Wedding Venue in North Wales. Located on the northern coast of the beautiful Llyn Peninsula overlooking the breathtakingly beautiful Porthdinllaen Bay. I can personally confirm that sunsets at this venue are out of this world! It sits in a truly magical location and provides an absolutely perfect setting for your wedding day. It even has its own 1-mile long private beach, how cool’s that!?
A privately owned historic family house and estate that offers luxurious accommodation for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Bryngwyn Hall is close to Welshpool and Oswestry and within easy reach of Chester, Wrexham, Shrewsbury, and Telford. The Hall has 60 acres of oak-studded parkland with the backdrop of The Tanat Valley hills. It sits in nine acres of award-winning gardens leading down to a beautiful eight-acre lake.
I’m a Cheshire, North Wales, Anglesey, Snowdonia & Shropshire Wedding Photographer based near Llangollen in North Wales. My style is natural, relaxed and emotive. Most couples that book me are super laid-back. They want their wedding photographer to fit in with their exciting plans without being bossy.
