If you are a couple day-dreaming about an incredible wedding or elopement experience in Eryri (Snowdonia) – this one’s for you!
Situated at the Llyn Gwynant campsite at the bottom of Snowdon in the spectacular Nant Gwynant Valley, this eco-friendly wedding venue in Wales is a nature lover’s paradise! Its proximity to Llyn Gwynant, a natural lake in the Snowdonia National Park in glorious North Wales, allows for dreamy wedding adventures and truly is the most perfect spot for epic wedding photography!
Llyn Gwynant Barns is a truly charming & stunningly serene destination wedding venue nestled right in the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia). With breathtaking mountain views and a peaceful lakeside setting, it has that perfect blend of rustic charm and natural beauty – great for relaxed, outdoorsy couples looking for a truly one-of-a-kind venue with plenty of space for camping weddings – it’s SO so easy to have an intimate and unforgettable wedding day here where friends & family can come together under the open sky to celebrate you.
I might be a little biased, but as a wedding & elopement photographer covering this area, the barn at Llyn Gwynant is (hand on heart!) one of the most incredible elopement locations, set in the most breathtaking valley in all of Eryri (Snowdonia).
The campsite spans 124 acres of lush vegetation, making it a breathtakingly stunning setting for relaxed weddings & photos. Those sweeping views over Llyn Gwynant and Moel Hebog are some of the most photographed locations in Snowdonia – and it’s easy to see why! If you appreciate relaxed, storytelling-focused wedding photography for unposed & effortlessly stunning, natural wedding photographs – I can help!
We’ve been coming to this campsite in our camper for years, and honestly, it never ever EVER gets old! I feel so lucky to have captured some truly beautiful weddings at Llyn Gwynant over the years – it’s just one of those places that steals your heart.
And if you’re up for a little adventure, Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) is just a mere 3km away – you can walk straight up from the campsite! Now that’s what I call an epic wedding weekend!
The campsite is laid-back and effortlessly beautiful, with flat grass pitches, cosy campfires, and a warm welcome for dogs (which is pretty important if you have 3, like us!). If it’s important to you to get married with your loyal adventure buddy right by your side, you might find this helpful. Because….weddings are 100% even better with dogs :)
What can you do at a lake wedding?
A lake wedding isn’t just about the stunning views (although, that’s obviously one of the main reasons why you’re considering getting married at Llyn Gwynant, right??) – it’s also 100% about the experience. If you’re planning an intimate elopement or a festival-style celebration – a dry hire lakeside setting offers SO many different opportunities to make your wedding truly YOU.
Here are some amazing ideas other couples included in their lake wedding in Wales:
Vows by the water – imagine saying your vows with Llyn Gwynant as your backdrop, at the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) – best view in Wales!
Romantic first look overlooking the lake – standing at the water’s edge, the mountains reflecting in the still lake, your heart racing with excitement. A first look by the lake is such a nice way to steal a quiet, intimate moment together before the (oftentimes slightly crazy) celebrations begin.
Or start your wedding day with pure serenity – relaxing with yoga by the lake? Imagine the gentle sound of water lapping the shore, fresh mountain air filling your lungs, and the morning sun casting a golden glow over the lake as you flow through a peaceful yoga session. It’s the perfect way to calm your mind, center yourself, and soak in the moment before saying ‘I do’.
How to plan a Llyn Gwynant Wedding
If having a slightly wild, scenic, and unforgettable wedding surrounded by mountains and water is high up on your wedding wishlist – a Llyn Gwynant wedding is exactly what you’re looking for! Planning a wedding or elopement here is slightly different from planning a wedding at a traditional venue – it’s about fully embracing the outdoors (including the unpredictable and often crazy Welsh weather!) and creating a wedding that feels completely you. Here’s how to make it happen!
Why Choose Llyn Gwynant for Your Wedding?
I mean, what can I say other than – unbeatable scenery! A crystal-clear lake, dramatic mountains, and wide-open skies for a breathtakingly stunning backdrop on your wedding day;
Scenic outdoor ceremony options – say your vows right by the lake, in the barn, or up on the hills with panoramic views (it’s licensed, so you can go anywhere you like – as long as your registrar or celebrant’s up for it!);
Super laid-back & festival-style vibes – great for those who love camping weddings and stargazing celebrations;
Dog-friendly – because weddings are just better with our loyal furry friends!
Without doubt THE best location for adventure lovers hoping to get married in Eryri (Snowdonia) – hike, kayak, or swim in the lake or walk up Snowdon right from the campsite for a truly once-in-a-lifetime wedding experience.
Start with booking your date
Llyn Gwynant is a popular outdoor wedding venue, so booking early is key! Contact the venue directly to check availability and secure your date. By the way – it’s worth considering a midweek wedding if you want to elope to Wales. Not sure what an elopement is or how to have one?
Choose your ceremony location
There are multiple stunning spots to say your vows at Llyn Gwynant – overlooking the lake (serene & picturesque with mountains reflecting in the water), inside the gorgeous barn (rustic & cosy, and great for those wanting to feel smug about not having to worry about the weater) and even on the hillside (if you can convince everyone – including the registrar or celebrant – to make it happen for you!);
Plan your reception & activities
One of the best things about a Llyn Gwynant wedding is the laid-back, adventure-filled atmosphere! You can have a lakeside firepit for toasting marshmallows & enjoying an intimate, relaxed evening. Enjoy your first dance & live music under the stars – a folk band or acoustic set (playing tunes from Braveheart perhaps?!) creates a magical vibe. And of course – go on an adventure: kayak, paddleboard, or even take a swim in the lake – it’s what they’re made for :) And you can also spend your entire wedding weekend camping out with your guests – wake up to the most stunning sunrise after your wedding (if you’re lucky!)
Incredible wedding pictures!
Hire a local wedding photographer who knows Llyn Gwynant inside out (and knows how to work with our ever-changing Welsh weather!) Be prepared for rain, mist, or epic moody skies (which make for the BEST photos!). I’ll help you plan an incredible mini adventure – whether that’s somewhere near the mountains or canoeing on the lake.
Organise food & drinks
There’s no on-site catering, which means you get total freedom to bring in the food and drinks you love!
Hire a food truck or mobile pizza van for a fun, relaxed vibe. Grazing boards & BBQs work well for outdoor weddings. Include local Welsh produce – like Welsh cake, cheese, craft beer, and Penderyn whisky – adds a super special & memorable touch to your wedding feast.
100% recommend fully embracing the (in)famously wild & temperamental Welsh weather!
Bring layers (a wool wrap or tweed jacket look good in photos) and fully embrace the elements – mist, wind, and soft drizzle create super dramatic wedding photos!
It’s good to remember that some of the most beautiful wedding moments happen in golden-hour mist, moody clouds, or light rain – so go with the flow and just enjoy the adventure!
My wedding and elopement photography style is natural and adventurous.
