When Isabel (Izzy) and Matthew first got in touch, they described their dream day in three words: intimate, moody, nature. Add in ‘Twilight Saga forest vibes’ and I knew instantly we were going to get on very well.

They were planning a beautifully low-key forest elopement in Wales before heading to a manor house later in the day for a small celebration with family and friends. But the heart of their wedding day was always about just the two of them – quiet, private, and surrounded by wild Welsh landscapes. And they absolutely nailed it.

Getting Ready at Ty Coedwig Treehouse, a Unique Hideaways Gem in Wales

We started the day at Ty Coedwig Treehouse, one of the most magical little hideaways in Wales I’ve been to. Tucked away in the most beautiful rolling countryside, it felt like something straight out of a fairytale – surrounded by ancient oak trees and rolling farmland, soft light, birdsong, and that calm, cocooned feeling you only get in proper nature. The couple got ready slowly and quietly, no rush, no crowd, no performance. Just the two of them, giggling, sharing glances, breathing it all in. This is one of the things I love most about elopements: the space to actually let you feel the day.

When Welsh Weather Changes the Plan (And Makes It Better)

We’d originally planned one location… but Wales had other ideas. Heavy rain rolled in and we had to pivot last-minute – one of those moments where you either stress or trust the process. We chose trust. So we headed deeper into Powys, chasing breaks in the cloud and bigger, moodier landscapes. And it paid off.

Private Vows in Hafren Forest

Their private ceremony took place right in the heart of Hafren Forest, one of the most atmospheric forest locations in Mid Wales. Towering trees, mossy ground, low cloud drifting through the branches – it genuinely felt dramatic and private. No guests. No registrar. No script.

Just Izzy and Matthew, standing in the middle of the forest, reading their own vows and exchanging rings in total privacy. It was quiet. Emotional. Raw in the best way. The kind of moment that feels like it belongs only to the two people experiencing it.

A 6-Hour Elopement That Felt Like a Real Day

They booked 6 hours of elopement photography, which gave us so much space to let the day unfold naturally: getting ready together – slow travel through the Welsh countryside – a private forest ceremony – and plenty of time for wandering, breathing, laughing, and just being

Nothing rushed. Nothing staged. Just presence over performance. And even with the weather forcing a change of plans, it ended up being exactly the kind of day they’d dreamed of. Moody. Intimate. Nature-led. Quietly unforgettable.

Why Forest Elopements in Wales Are So Special

If you’re drawn to dark, moody, nature-filled wedding days, Wales is honestly unmatched. Forests like Hafren, Coed y Brenin, and the hidden woodland pockets across Powys and Eryri offer total privacy, dramatic light (even on rainy days), and that deep, cinematic atmosphere you just can’t fake. Forest Elopements are perfect for camera-shy couples who want something meaningful, emotional, and beautifully low-key.

Thinking About Your Own Moody Elopement in Wales?

Izzy & Matthew’s day is such a perfect example of what eloping can really look like: no pressure, no rigid timelines, no need to impress anyone. Just the two of you, choosing a place that feels right and letting the day grow from there.

If you’re dreaming of a moody forest elopement in Wales, a Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) elopement, or a quiet nature-led wedding in Powys or Eryri (Snowdonia), this is exactly the kind of experience I love creating and documenting. It’s 100% not about perfect pictures. It’s all about how the day feels. Izzy & Matthew’s felt like magic.

PS: I’ve shared another similar day here – a moody mountain elopement including a handfasting overlooking Tryfan – which shows how powerful these simple, weather-embracing days can be.
