Why summer is a great season to elope in Eryri
If your heart is set on an intimate, adventure-filled wedding surrounded by jaw-dropping scenery, a summer elopement in Eryri (Snowdonia) might be exactly what you’re looking for. We’re talking golden sunsets spilling over the mountains, crystal-clear lakes reflecting the sky, and endless opportunities for adventure – it’s hard to think of a more magical place to say your vows (in my humble but 100% biased opinion :)).
If you fancy hiking to a scenic viewpoint for sunrise vows, standing hand-in-hand by a waterfall with mist swirling all around you, or celebrating lakeside with a cosy picnic and a bottle of bubbly – you’ll absolutely fall in love with Eryri! Here’s what you need to know if you want to plan a once-in-a-lifetime summer elopement in Eryri.
First things first though – why elope to Eryri (Snowdonia) in the summer?
Eloping in Eryri during the summer months (June–August) means longer days, golden light, and more time to soak up every moment. You’ll have extra daylight to explore, celebrate, and chase those dreamy golden-hour portraits – because let’s face it, we’re not exactly California over here, and we’ll take every bit of sunshine we can get!
The greenery will be lush and there’ll be wildflowers everywhere and the mountains, valleys, and meadows will be bursting with colour, for beautiful backdrops.
Mild weather & outdoor-friendly conditions – we all know how unpredictable the (in) famous Welsh weather can be, but summer offers your best chance for sunshine and warm breezes and also epic adventure opportunities. If you fancy hiking, wild swimming, kayaking, or camping under the stars then Summer is probably the best option for your adventure wedding!
The best summer elopement locations in Eryri
Eryri is packed with stunning locations that are great all year round but especially for a summer elopement. Here are two breathtaking spots:
Nant Gwynant Valley – a little slice of heaven with a lake
Crystal-clear waters with beautiful mountain views, and a peaceful setting and the right balance of wild beauty & peace. Great for couples who want a remote, romantic elopement without the crowds
Aber Falls – a magical waterfall backdrop
One of the most breathtaking waterfalls in Wales, with a stunning rock face and crystal-clear pool. Great for a romantic, fairytale-like ceremony with the soothing sound of cascading water. Pick your timings wisely though as this spot does get busy in summer.
What to wear for a summer elopement in Eryri
Eryri’s weather has a mind of its own, even in summer. One minute it’s golden sunshine, the next it’s a dramatic mist rolling over the mountains (which makes for some incredible photos, right?). So what should you wear? First and foremost – 100% wear whatever makes you feel amazing! If you’re hiking, climbing, or exploring different locations, comfort is key. Combine lightweight, flowy dresses that catch the wind beautifully with breathable, lightweight suits paired with hiking boots – the perfect combo for adventure. Flower crowns & wild bouquets? If you’re after those effortlessly boho, nature-inspired vibes, this is the way to go. Whatever you wear, please make sure it feels like you – because that confidence will shine through in every photo.
How we capture the best photos of your summer elopement
Eryri (Snowdonia) is an absolute dream for photographers – everywhere you turn, there’s epic scenery, golden light, and wild, untouched beauty. And while summer brings some of the best natural light, there’s one thing we want to avoid… that harsh midday sun! Between 11:00am and 3:00pm, the sun is at its strongest, which means harsh shadows, squinting, and washed-out colours – not exactly the dreamy, romantic vibe we’re going for! Instead, the best light happens at sunrise or sunset, when the sun sits lower in the sky, casting those soft, golden tones that make everything look magical. But because we’re in Wales – the weather does whatever it wants (and whenever it wants to)! If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know my dogs have taught me to embrace it all – the mist, the wind, even the rain. And no word of a lie – some of the most breathtaking and memorable photos I’ve taken have happened in the middle of a dramatic weather moment.
To make your elopement feel even more like an adventure, you could include something fun like canoeing across a lake, hiking to a secret spot, or setting up a cozy picnic—these little moments tell a story and make your day even more unforgettable. Or
