Autumn Elopement at Aber Falls
S&J got engaged beneath a waterfall in Mid Wales. So when it came to choosing somewhere to exchange their wedding vows, getting married beside another waterfall seemed like a pretty lovely idea. This time, they chose Aber Falls in North Wales, with celebrant Jane leading their ceremony.
And because it was October in Eryri, it rained. Quite a lot, actually. But that didn’t ruin their beautiful wedding adventure at all, quite the opposite actually – what a lovely little wedding day it was!
An Intimate Wedding Ceremony at Aber Falls
I love it when couples choose somewhere that means something to them, rather than simply picking a location because it looks beautiful in photographs. For S&J, returning to a waterfall to exchange their vows was a little nod to their engagement. And Aber Falls, tucked away in the foothills of the Carneddau mountains in Eryri (Snowdonia), was a beautiful place to do it. Their celebrant Jane led their personal ceremony, with the sound of the waterfall in the background and the Welsh rain making itself very much at home. Not quite the dry autumn day you might hope for, but a lovely one nonetheless.
A Rainy October Elopement in Eryri
October is such a good time of year for a quiet elopement in North Wales – the landscape is changing colour, the summer crowds have eased a little and the mountains can look incredible under low cloud. Of course, there’s also a reasonable chance of getting absolutely soaked. S&J certainly didn’t escape the rain, but their day was never about having perfect weather or finding the perfect backdrop – they’d chosen somewhere with a personal connection, planned a ceremony that suited them and got married.
And really, that’s all that matters, right?
Can You Elope at Aber Falls?
If you’re thinking about planning your own Aber Falls elopement, it’s a beautiful location to consider, particularly if you enjoy walking and spending time outdoors. The waterfall is reached on foot from the main car park near Abergwyngregyn, with a well-established walking route through the valley. It’s worth allowing plenty of time, especially if you’re wearing wedding clothes or planning to stop for photographs along the way. Aber Falls is also a popular place for walkers, so choosing a quieter time of day can make the experience feel a little more relaxed. And because it’s an outdoor location rather than a licensed wedding venue, you’ll need to sign the legal marriage papers separately (same day or on a different day, entirely up to you) if you’d like to have a symbolic or celebrant-led ceremony here.

You don’t need a complicated plan to have a lovely wedding day. Sometimes it’s as simple as finding somewhere that means something to you, inviting the people you’d love to have there and spending a few hours doing things you genuinely enjoy.
