What to wear for your family photography session

So you’ve booked your photographer for a super relaxed family photography session and can’t wait to update the pictures on your wall. You’re keeping an eye on the forecast and then you start wondering what to wear for your family photography session.

Family photoshoot outfit ideas

Making sure everyone feels comfortable and isn’t wearing clothes that make them feel awkward or conscious of potential problem areas should be your main priority. We want everyone to feel relaxed, a little excited and definitely super happy – having a family photography session is a positive event in my books so try not to torture your children (or yourself for that matter) by making them wear something they don’t like.

Ideally you want to stand out in your photos and compliment the backdrop and you also want your colours to work with your photographer’s style. There’s a ton of inspiration on Pinterest, simply search for what to wear for your family photography session in Autumn, Winter, Spring or Summer and you should be able to easily work out how to coordinate outfits rather than all wear the same.

How to dress for a family photography session

Try and avoid outfits with hoods, tracksuits, large logos and graphics, loud colours or anything neon as those things can easily distract and date your photographs very quickly. Layering up with jumpers, cardigans and jackets will ensure there’s a bit of variety in your shoot. And don’t forget your shoes either – heels or sandals look a little out of place in an autumnal or winter shoot and depending on where your photographer takes you for your session can make it difficult (if not impossible) to get there.
